ARTIST RECAP
NOYAN MASGUTOV
In case you missed our previous event where Noyan was invited to be a speaker, we wanted to share a little re-cap and update about this Bristol based motion designer. Noyan, came to ANiMiNSPO recently to share about his career and to give a talk about freelancing.
Noyan, originally from Kazakhstan, came to Bristol to study Animation at UWE and has spent the two years since graduation both in industry, working on projects spanning LOREAL Paris, Maybelline, Garnier, and now recently jumping into the freelance pool. Recently he was a guest speaker at one of our events into some of the projects that have defined his early career and talk about what it actually looks like to build a motion design practice from scratch in a new country. This is what we learnt about Noyan:

BIG SCREENS AND BIGGER BREIFS
Since his previous appearance at ANiMiNSPO, Noyan has gone through industry experience working for Blow Creative. The project that probably best captures the type of motion design Noyan makes, is a screen activation he worked on for Maybelline New York in central London during his time working for Blow. It involved creating motion content for one of those genuinely immersive digital environments where screens are basically everywhere you look: walls, ceiling, the lot. The challenge is not just making something that looks good on a single display. It is making something that makes sense as a whole experience when someone is standing in the middle of it. We caught up with Noyan about the project, and how coming to ANiMiNSPO helped push his boundaries and design skills.
Maybelline X MILEY motion graphics digital screen work by Noyan Masgutov
“ Working in the motion design team at Blow on this huge activation was a massive and exciting opportunity. Especially being trusted with the later half of the show in the evening when the ALTEGO dj set was playing. I had to figure out how to time the visuals to the performance, and still make sure they stood out compared to the rest of the motion design from the earlier half of the day. The visual language throughout the Maybelline event had rich golden tones, film-like overlays and played to Miley’s look and feel. So I tried taking it another direction. Modern, kinetic, contrasting motion design that reflected ALTEGOS dj set. Its been great seeing my own progress from first presenting at ANiMiNSPO in 2024 and i can genuinely say coming to these screenings every time gave me more motivation and pushed me to challenge myself as a motion designer. ” -Noyan
His solution was rooted in typography and timing text moving in rhythm with the music playing through the space. It is a disciplined approach that prioritises the feeling of the room over visual complexity, and it works. Watching it, you do not feel like you are looking at a screen. You feel like you are inside an immersive experience. As any Motion Designer would tell you, large Digital Out Of Home screens are its own set of challenges, but executing on a huge wrap around immersive digiscreen is something else entirely.
LOVE SAVES THE DAY MOTION WORK
With ANiMiNSPO being closely tied with the UWE animation course and its alumni, Noyan was able to jump onto the opportunity to contribute through an established link between UWE's Animation programme and the Team Love crew, Noyan delivered animated content for the festival's official promotional campaign. It landed on the festival's Instagram and racked up a serious view count. His usage of 2.5 D after effects camera work, and collage like motion design is visually unique and builds out the Love Saves experience perfectly. As Motion Designers and animators ourselves, we can clearly appreciate his use of easing from scene to scene, and compositing work for the asset layout.
Love Saves The Day motion design social work by Noyan Masgutov
“ The Love Saves The Day motion work was super fun to work on. Being involved in an official Team Love project, to make a visually engaging motion piece was definitely a pinch me moment. As a huge fan of the festival myself, I was glad to bring my skills and visual technicality to the brand. Especially with the success of the post itself and the amount it got shared on instagram. I actually was happy to be able to get peer review of my motion design before i fleshed it out, through other motion designers i met during a previous ANiMiNSPO session. Coming to these events has hugely broadened my network and really gave me the ability to stay in touch with very strong designers.” -Noyan
WHAT COMES NEXT?
Noyan is freelancing full time now, building out his client base and staying active in the city that helped shape his career. We're super excited to see what's next for him, as he's recently been involved in working for ClockWise on BoomTown content, and for BigTeam for Forwards festival. We're wishing the best for him, and look forward to his next submission as a now much more experienced motion designer to ANiMiNSPO!
